French automaker Renault has opened reservations for its Twizy electric vehicle, which is manufactured in Spain and expected to go on-sale in the European market sometime at the end of this year.
The Twizy comes in a "urban" and "technic" style, as well as in a standard and smaller Twizy 45 model.
The smaller, cheapest version, the Twizy 45, is equipped with a 5 horsepower motor and limited to a top speed of approximately 28 miles per hour.
The base model costs roughly $10,000 in addition to the $64 a month fee for the battery lease.
The top-of-the-line Twizy is equipped with a 17 horsepower motor, has top speed of 50 miles per hour, and costs a bit over $12,000.
Just under a 1,000 pounds, both versions of the the lightweight, two-seater have a range of 62 miles on a full charge.
Powered by lithium-ion batteries, the company says the vehicle can reach full capacity in three and a half hours from a standard outlet.
No word yet on if Renault will make the electric vehicle available in the United States, but it seems unlikely as the automaker doesn't have any dealerships in the country.
We have, however, covered a similar electric vehicle manufactured in Oregon from Arcimoto called the Red 5, which is a few thousand dollars more than the Twizy, but has a greater range and top speed.
